SLS on Streaming!

Updated on: 31st Oct 2026

Last updated on: July, 2024

Streaming is the next big opportunity for lifelong reading. Although streaming is yet to make major inroads into the homes of our 850 million non- and weak-readers, it is imminent in the near-future. BIRD will continue to focus its SLS intervention on content and not distribution channels or devices.

In case of any queries, or corrections, please contact: info@billionreaders.org

This page helps viewers find out which titles on major streaming platforms in India offer Same Language Subtitling (SLS) and Audio Description (AD) and in which languages. SLS shows on-screen subtitles in the same language as the audio, and AD narrates what is happening on screen for blind and low-vision viewers. It is updated every Friday.

How we check

We review titles on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5 and SonyLIV. For each title, our team checks the platform for SLS and AD in the original language and in any dubbed versions and records the date it was checked on. The tracker covers a selection of titles, not each platform's full catalogue, so a title's absence from this page does not mean it lacks these features.
