PlanetRead is a non-profit organisation working to improve reading and language learning through the Billion Readers (BIRD) initiative, supported by IIT Delhi. Through Same Language Subtitling (SLS), subtitles are added in the viewer’s own language on TV and media content, helping improve reading skills while also making content accessible for Deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences. PlanetRead is working with Prasar Bharati and Regional Doordarshan Kendras to build long-term, sustainable SLS systems across Indian languages.

The Project Manager will lead SLS operations at the assigned Doordarshan Kendra (Hyderabad) and ensure smooth execution of workflows, quality checks, team coordination, and project delivery. The role will coordinate between PlanetRead/BIRD teams and broadcast teams while supporting long-term operational capacity within the centre.

Operations & Project Management

  • Manage daily SLS operations, workflows, schedules, and delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate content intake, approvals, tracking, and broadcast delivery.
  • Maintain operational trackers, reports, and documentation.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Recruit and supervise video editors, language experts, and QC teams.
  • Allocate tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Maintain onboarding records, agreements, and operational documentation.

Compliance, Documentation & Quality

  • Ensure subtitle quality, synchronization, readability, and language accuracy.
  • Follow all confidentiality, content security, and operational protocols.
  • Maintain audit-ready records and escalate operational risks when needed.

Learning, Quality & Systems Strengthening

  • Implement standard workflows, templates, and quality guidelines.
  • Identify operational gaps and improve processes where required.
  • Coordinate with technical teams for troubleshooting and workflow support.
  • 3+ years of experience in project management, operations, media, or broadcast coordination.
  • Strong team management and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Good communication, documentation, and organisational abilities.
  • Experience working with institutional or government environments is preferred.
  • Fluency in Telugu and working proficiency in English.
